In a recent interview with Blabbermouth regarding the new album "Gore," Chino says, “I feel like it’s a little more technical, maybe. We’re constantly trying to see how far we could take things in different directions. That’s what keeps you entertained.”
“I’m not gonna say it’s a happy record, [but] it’s not a completely angry record.” For “Gore”, Deftones tapped the talent of Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains. He contributed a guitar solo that old and new fans will like.
Gore is slated for and April 8th release this year.

PALMS has been working on new material and the band has given a drop on the tongue for thirsty fans via their Instagram:
"A little preview of a new one."
This will be the follow up to the band's successful 2013 self-titled debut. Can't wait to hear what's next.A video posted by palmsband (@palmsband) on
Yesterday Chino Moreno sat down in an interview with Rolling Stone to reveal more details about Deftones' forthcoming album.
In comparison to 2012's Koi No Yokan, "I think it's a little more of a heady record," Chino says. "I feel like we've gone into the songs and really dissected them. If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven't done in the past."
The band is on schedule for traking and recording and are set to be done in the studio by March. "We've got a good jump on everything," he says. "It feels good."
There will be 16 tracks featured on the LP, more than the band has ever recorded for a final release. The album is being produced by Matt Hyde, who did tracking and production for Koi No Yokan. Chino believes there will be a Fall release for the record. "Probably September or October."
Speaking on his side project, Team Sleep and the new material that they currently have under their belts, Chino says: "A lot of this stuff is actually newer stuff that we've written in the last couple years. All those guys pretty much have day jobs and live in Sacramento – and I live in Oregon now – but recently we were able to get together and got a lot of stuff finished."
"I'm not really too interested in starting another touring cycle and doing all the stuff to try and sell and market the record. I feel like the music has this timeless quality to it. I'd love to just put it out and have it be on some legacy shit; just let it do what it does."
Speaking on Crosses and Team Sleep, he makes it clear where his priorities lay:
"Recently, my head's been completely engulfed in the Deftones record, as it should be. It doesn't make sense right now for me to try and do three projects at one time, but when I am working on those, I have fun doing it."
Will we be hearing new Deftones tunes next winter? In January, Steph talked in an interview regarding the status of the follow up to 2012's Koi No Yokan.
"We are actually writing a new record and we're gonna... We're supposed to be going in to record it next month, but we're taking it as it goes. I mean, we're not all the way ready now, but we've still got time and we're working on it," he told Music Store Live.
With that in mind, if they stick to the usual grind they've applied to the last couple albums and finish within a few months, we may hear some new tracks by winter 2015. That's if all goes well and they start recording fairly soon. That's strictly based on my observation and purely speculation. No official recording or record release details have been revealed.
